Reducing Costs & Increasing Speed to Market through an End-to-End Approach

Vicenzi Group is a leading Italian manufacturer of Pastry and Bakery products such as ladyfingers, amaretti and puff pastries, sold under the flagship brand “Matilde Vicenzi”. With more than 350 employees operating across 4 key sites, their 600+ SKUs are distributed to over 100 markets internationally within retail and food service. In 2018, the business enjoyed a turnover of almost €125m.

The Challenge

The Vicenzi Group were struggling with the siloed way in which the different stages of their product development and packaging artwork process were being managed, and had a heavy reliance on external suppliers for even minor changes. This was creating long lead times in their packaging artwork production, increasing the risk of error, and resulting in escalating costs as their portfolio expanded.

The team at Vicenzi Group were looking for a way to create a true end-to-end process which would allow them to:

  • Have one “single source of truth” for their product development and product information, including verified translations and multi-lingual capability
  • Take control of their packaging artwork process, creating a platform and workflow to integrate all of their internal departments, agencies and print suppliers
  • Dynamically create up-to-the-minute Product Data sheets
  • Action text and other minor amends to packaging artwork internally (without needing special software or design/artwork resource)
  • Create a fully searchable, centralised library of all marketing, artwork and packaging assets

The Solution

Working closely with the Vicenzi Group to create an end-to-end solution fully optimised for the team’s needs, 4Pack has transformed their product information and artwork management processes; not just meeting but surpassing Vicenzi’s initial objectives.

The solution began with implementation of 4Pack’s core Product Information Management (PIM) module, creating a central, global platform for all their product information right from the product development stage. Crucially, this is integrated with 4Pack’s dynamic Label and Artwork Management functionality, which pulls approved information directly from the PIM into the packaging artwork, allowing text and other amends without the need for external resource.

All of this is supported by a complete Digital Asset Management solution, and comprehensive Project Management functionality, encompassing both internal and external teams in managing workflows, timelines and actions.

The Results

  • Significantly faster time to market with new products as a result of integrating processes, information and teams
  • Faster product updates, with over 1,500 updates managed quickly and easily internally in the last 12 months
  • Successful integration with key internal and external systems, including ERP
  • Smoother regulatory and quality compliance, with less rework and amends
  • Multi-channel distribution of approved product information to a range of formats
  • Greater control and ownership throughout the packaging production process
  • 90% cost reduction across the packaging development and management cycle
